Main Do’s and Don’ts

1. Do’s

  • ALWAYS make sure the screws of battery covers are fully tightened
  • ALWAYS wear safety gear when driving (at least helmet)
  • ALWAYS do a function-check of your controller (accelerate/brake) before driving.
  • ALWAYS be fully aware of other people on the roads
  • ALWAYS ensure that you have enough braking space
  • ALWAYS Stop driving instantly if batteries seem weak (performance drops)
  • ALWAYS unplug the battery cable from the motor unit cable when not driving

2. Don'ts

  • NEVER put hands/other body parts into the motor unit while cables are connected!
  • NEVER put the board into water!
  • NEVER drive under the influence of any stimulant
  • NEVER let anybody drive the board without initial instructioning
  • NEVER discharge the battery lower than 3.0 Volts per cell
  • NEVER step on the back side of the Spine
  • NEVER just give full throttle right away when starting.
  • NEVER break 100% instantly when driving fast.

3. Balancing & Turning

Keeping the balance when driving the board is of course very important to avoid accidents. Steering the Spine is comparable to something in between riding a normal longboard and a snowboard. Now, imagine that with a motor that pushes you forward.

General rule: Lean towards the direction you want to go.
Thus: (remember, you will be standing sideways)

  • When accelerating, lean towards your front leg
  • When braking, lean towards your rear leg
  • When you want to turn right, lean forward using your feet
  • When you want to turn left, lean backwards using your feet

When positioning yourself on the board, make sure to stand as wide as possible to ensure best chances of getting a good balance. Stand completely sideways on the board with your toes facing the side (similar to the position on a snowboard).

4. Starting & Stopping

  • NEVER just give full throttle right away when starting.
  • NEVER break 100% in an instant when driving fast.
  • It will throw you off the board and most likely result in an accident!

The key to getting a smooth start/stop is to locate the point at which the controller starts to activate the acceleration/brake and slowly increase from there. Then you will start to get the hang of it and become a true master in no time.
